I went to Boston for a weekend trip and wore these great Pinkerton silk pants on the flight there. These pajama pants are perfectly comfy for travel. It was as hot and steamy in Boston as it is here in Miami so I was grateful for the super light material since we went straight on a mini tour of the downtown area after arriving. Pre-pregnancy, I preferred to wear them with a cropped flowy top for a lighter, airier look, but my options are a little more limited nowadays. Silky pajama pants have been heavy on the street style circuit, check out other cool ways to style them below. I love when clothes are just as comfy as they are fun to wear! Going into any kind of discount store can be a daunting and intimidating task; large thrift stores and vintage shops included. Being a seasoned discount and vintage shopper, I am happy to share of my tricks of the trade. Here, I will focus on specific items in thrift and vintage stores to keep a look-out for as they are usually the best “finds” and value-wise you’ll get the most bang for your buck.
When in thrift stores that are overstuffed with all kinds of goodies (and not-so-goodies), good tops can be one of the toughest things to find. They are usually wedged in between a whole lotta garbage.
One tip is to feel through all of the tops. Use your sense of touch! You may not be able to see all the items, and instead may be able to feel that vintage silk blouse or soft vintage angora tank sweater crammed in between all that polyester (not that I’m against all polyester!).
Another definite vintage goody are vintage dresses! There are always amazing vintage silk dresses up for the grab in thrift stores. One thing to look out for are STAINS! Sometimes in these poorly lit shops you wont notice a small grease stain until you arrive at your home and its, too late (no refunds at these store)! I have found some great dresses that I’ve purchased even with stains, only to find out that my cleaner can’t remove these age-old stains most of the time .
Another important tip when looking and purchasing vintage dresses is to try them on before purchasing them. Vintage molds and cuts are quite different from modern day molds so it is important to try on before purchasing. I frequent some mega thrift stores that do not have fitting rooms so I go in my leggings and tight shirt uniform and try on in front of whatever mirror I can find!
Although these are pretty tough to find, finding adorable vintage pumps and shoes always gives me an extra thrill. They are tougher to find, because vintage shoes in good condition that are good quality are just fewer and farther between. On top of that, you have to hope and pray the pair you find will fit your foot. It’s not a hopeless task though. There are plenty of beautiful italian leather pumps out there for the taking. Just have patience and return often for a looksy around.
Vintage purses are an easier find to keep an eye out for.The best ones to look out for are beaded evening handbags or leather clutches since these are usually in better condition being that they are more gently used.
Vintage purses are a perfect items to add a little pop and vintage feel to an otherwise contemporary look.
When I’m having a thrifting off-day (not finding any vintage apparel), I go for an accessory search. Thrift stores are a great place to score furs. I have purchased at least 4 different amazing vintage fur coats all well below $30 each. My most recent fave fur find was this gorgeous classic mink stole that I am dying to wear in the upcoming Autum/Winter months. I also wear my fox fur collar religiously with just about any sweater and coat in the cool months.
Not into fur? Other great vintage store accessories you’re sure to find: silk scarves, wool coats, and HATS! I’m in the middle of a hat obsession at the moment so I am always on the lookout for hats and have found so many amazing HIGH QUALITY vintage wool and beach hats recently. New, good quality hats nowadays are costing a pretty penny so put your thrifting skills to work!
AND of course last, but not least, my BIGGEST TIP when it comes to vintage and thrift shopping is SHOP DESPY!
Let me do the dirty work for you. Just sit back, kick your feet up and visit the website often for guaranteed great vintage finds at amazing prices. )
For all you Audrey Hepburn fans, the classic French brand S.T. Dupont has launched a special Riviera collection in tribute to the one and only Audrey Hepburn. The collection includes the pictured below tote (as well as several other designs), a lighter and a pen all inspired by Ms. Hepburn’s ever classy, feminine style. There is an accompanying Iconic brand inspired by other Hollywood great Humphrey Bogart for him. Very masculine chic. And S.T. Dupont should know their taste well being that they were both loyal customers of the brand!

While strolling around the International Fashion Week exhibition lobby a couple weeks ago, I was stopped in my tracks when I came across this particular booth. Being the Vintage enthusiast that I am, I was immediately drawn to these vintage inspired hand-beaded evening handbags (not to mention that the sparkle beaming from them was hypnotizing!). Canadian native and resident Jacqui Uza is the creator/designer/owner of BOKO (Bead One Knit One) and incredibly designs, crochets and hand-beads these breathtaking purses all herself. The bags are vintage inspired ranging in style, color and era. These intricate, hand-made beauties can be customized so they are perfect for weddings and special events and will no doubt become your newest family heirloom. Can you say worth every penny?!? Purchase them on Etsy here (www.bokointernational.etsy.com) or email Jacqui at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. With over 30 designs to choose from, good luck picking just one!

Neon accents are one of the many Spring/Summer trends that have hit the streets! I bought this neon green badeau top at Ragstock in Minneapolis for $4 and wore it all weekend! I’m loving the fun way it brightens up any ol’ outfit. Get it here at Amazon.com for $5! Skinny bright belts like the one I am wearing here are also a fun and easy way to bring this trend into your wardrobe. Here is a similar one for $10!

I was feeling all bright and disco-retro inspired over the weekend. Now that Spring is officially here, I feel even more inclined (if that’s possible) to brighten up my looks. This season don’t be scared to mix bold bright colors together. I’m loving my bright yellow shoes and how much they add to anything I pair them with. If you’re looking for one hot item for Spring I highly recommend investing in a bold-colored statement shoe. When in doubt, I go to my trusty yellow sandals and coral colored wedges to finish my look!

Much like my own, I take my phone’s outfits seriously. I’m all about originality when it comes to accessories and clothing and my iphone case is no exception. That’s why I’m so pumped about this iphone cover I just ordered. It’s the ultimate personalized phone cover because you use your very own Instagram pictures to make the design! It’s an Instagram concept called Casetegram and the better news is that you can get the regularly priced $35 case for only $21 at Gilt.com until March 28th! At that price, I may just get a few more phone “ensembles” !
I bought these super cute Modern Heritage socks (only $7) at DSW a few weeks ago and have been waiting for a chance to pair them up with some fun sandals and try the “socks with sandals” trend seen everywhere in the Spring and Fall 2012 fashion shows. I purchased these bright yellow Nine West sandals for $10 (!) at Marshalls months ago and love how the bright colors compliment each other. DSW online has a really nice selection of socks and tights at great prices from simple to flashy. I love the frilly Jessica Simpson anklet socks too. I live for pairing my vintage collections with new trends!

I recently bought my very first pair of Louboutins! Yes, it’s true, I am the proud owner of the beauties pictured below. And how, might you ask, does a Frugalista like me get away with having a pair of $900 shoes and still be able to proudly hold the title of Frugalista? Well, this is the most exciting part; there is this great little consignment store in Miami that made me it possible for me to pay only $250 for these heels. The store is called The Consignment Bar, located on Biscayne and 74th St. It’s a beautiful little shop filled with gorgeous designer handbags, dresses, clothing, accessories and shoes! The items are all lightly used (but in great condition) making it possible for money-conscious ladies like myself to enjoy these designer gems! I’ve also purchased my Prada bag pictured below and my black Fendi (that I seem to wear every weekend) there, as well. This is a great shop to tell your boyfriends or husbands about when birthdays and holidays roll around! You can also now shop online. If you don’t know, now you know!
Accessories can make or break an outfit. And what more important accessories than the ones that go on our faces? It’s no wonder we take our sunglasses so seriously. This year’s fashion trends have been all about vintage and retro chic and sunglasses are no exception. In the Spring/Summer 2012 shows we saw a resurgence of the cat-eye (Image 1: Ana Sui & Image 2: Missoni), some bold colored and pattered frames (Image 4: Stella McCartney) and some newly emerging eco-inspired trends such as Louis Vuitton’s SS2012 wooden framed sunglasses (pictured below) and Stella McCartney’s SS 2012 eco-friendly sunglass collection (Image 4). These sunglasses are made with bio-plastic which is composed of 54% castor-oil seeds (source: eye-wear-glasses.com)!
The new H&M 2012 Summer Lookbook is out! Lookbooks are a great references for upcoming trends and styling ideas; and who doesn’t love H&M? It looks like this Summer Collection is very vintage inspired (looove that) and I’m really into the deep purple with soft pink color combo they’re featuring in a few looks.
To my fellow Miami residents: Our very own H&M is coming soon and set to open in the Fall of 2012! The store will be located on Lincoln Rd. where the New Wold Symphony used to be housed, and will feature 22,000 sq feet and 2 floors full of H&M goodness. Could be dangerous.
If you’re like me, you’ve fantasized about having a friend your exact size and shape, with killer style and a closet full of beautiful designer dresses up for the taking. Well, fantasize no more! This may be a concept most of us have heard about… think Jennifer Hudson in Sex and the City 2 renting her designer handbags in lieu of dishing out thousands from her personal assistant wage… now translate that into designer dresses… And that is our new stylish best friend Rent the Runway. The website has hundreds of designer dresses to choose from for a special occasion, vacation, or event. It all seems simple enough: You choose your dress; they ship 2 sizes of the dress to your home within 2 days; you can keep it 4-8 days and then return it in prepaid packaging. The price range is from $50- $500+. And did I mention that they rent bridesmaid dresses?! I mean really, who has worn their bridesmaid dresses twice? If only I’d known this last year…
